Dental hygienists help you prevent gum disease and tooth decay.  They work with you to help keep your mouth healthy, which contributes to your overall health.  Periodontal (gum) disease is very common.  The signs of gum disease may include bleeding or swollen gums.  It is an infectious condition that can result in the destruction of gum tissue and bone.  Dental hygiene check-ups include examination of the teeth as well as all tissues in the mouth.  People with full or partial dentures also need to have their mouths examined regularly to assess the fit of their dentures and the overall health of their mouth.  During your dental hygiene appointment, your hygienist will:

-review your chart and medical history
-review your current medical status with you, there are many medical conditions and medications that may affect dental hygiene treatment
-examine your head and neck for abnormalities
-examine your tongue, gums, teeth and all other areas of your mouth
-measure attachment of the gums to your teeth (probing)
-take prescribed x-rays
-scale your teeth using hand or mechanical instruments removing hard and soft deposits (plaque and tartar)
-polish your teeth to remove stains
-provide education and a customized oral care program for you

Dr. Ameen is the only preferred Invisalign provider in Thunder Bay!!!
